He is a well-known American economist, former chairman and CEO of American International Group (AIG), a legendary figure of the insurance industry. During his tenure, AIG becomes the world's largest insurance and financial services company the 18th largest company in the world. His unique and innovative thinking has contributed trememdously to his success in business investment and management.
In recent years, he focuses on the study of how, in the new international economic order, China could achieve sustainable and accommodating growth by supporting adjustment of China’s economic structure and the international economic order while maintaining extensive cooperation with other countries. Mr. Greenberg is an honorary citizen of Shanghai, and has long served as a senior economic adviser to the municipal governments of Shanghai and Beijing. He is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, China Development Bank, the International Advisory Board, a member of the International Advisory Board of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
